How we score car rental services in Dubai

Every one of the 8 services we compare is measured once, on the same six raw criteria: price, deposit & fees, insurance transparency, pick-up & delivery, app & booking, and reviews. What changes between our eight rankings isn't the data — it's how much weight each criterion gets, because "best for a cheap city trip" and "best for an airport pick-up" genuinely value different things. Our Luxury and Electric rankings are the two exceptions: each adds its own seventh criterion — fleet quality and EV availability respectively — since that's what actually defines a good luxury or electric rental in each case.

We publish the exact weights below rather than a single opaque "editor's score" — that's the one thing most comparison sites in this space don't do. If you disagree with how much a category weights, say, deposit size versus reviews, you can see exactly why a service ranked where it did.

How we collect this data

Price, deposit & cancellation terms: Pulled directly from each service's published rate card and live booking flow, re-checked monthly rather than trusted as a one-time snapshot.
Insurance transparency: Scored from our own test bookings and a full read-through of each service's contract terms and excess disclosures — not their marketing copy.
Pick-up & delivery: Verified against each service's live terminal and desk listings, cross-checked with our own pick-up tests where possible.
App & booking: Scored hands-on by completing a full booking flow in each service's app or site — the score reflects that test, not claimed features.
Reviews: Aggregated from Google and Trustpilot, refreshed monthly. We report the review volume alongside every score so you can judge how much weight to give it.
Fleet quality & EV availability: Checked against each service's live in-app inventory over the review period — a car listed on a website but not actually bookable doesn't count.

Weights by ranking

This Overall ranking puts the heaviest weight on pick-up & delivery experience and service reliability (insurance transparency, app & booking), with price and deposit weighted lightly — the things that affect every renter regardless of budget or trip length matter more here than the cheapest sticker price.

Pick-up & delivery 30%Insurance transparency 20%App & booking 20%Reviews 15%Price 10%Deposit & fees 5%

This ranking still weights price and deposit meaningfully (30% combined) since those are what a budget renter actually pays out of pocket, but balances them against insurance transparency, pick-up & delivery and app experience — a service that's cheap because it cuts corners elsewhere doesn't score well here either.

Price 20%Insurance transparency 20%Pick-up & delivery 20%App & booking 15%Reviews 15%Deposit & fees 10%

This ranking adds a seventh criterion on top of the standard six: fleet quality and breadth (25% of the weight) — the actual range and condition of supercars and premium vehicles on offer — balanced against insurance transparency and pick-up & delivery, since a wide fleet paired with unclear insurance terms or a difficult hand-off isn't actually the best luxury experience.

Fleet quality 25%Insurance transparency 20%Pick-up & delivery 20%Reviews 15%App & booking 10%Price 5%Deposit & fees 5%

This ranking scores price on the dedicated monthly rate rather than a daily rate multiplied by 30, but weights it alongside insurance transparency, pick-up & delivery, app experience and reviews rather than on price alone — a cheaper monthly plan wrapped around unclear terms or thin support isn't the best long-stay pick.

Insurance transparency 20%Pick-up & delivery 20%App & booking 20%Reviews 20%Price 10%Deposit & fees 10%

For a rental measured in hours or a couple of days, how fast you can book and get moving matters most — so this ranking weights app & booking speed at 45%, the heaviest single weight on the site, with price as the next biggest factor and airport infrastructure weighted lightly.

App & booking 45%Price 20%Reviews 15%Pick-up & delivery 10%Deposit & fees 5%Insurance transparency 5%

For an airport pick-up specifically, terminal coverage, cancellation flexibility and delivery are the whole point — so this ranking weights pick-up & delivery at 55%, by far the heaviest single weight of any ranking on the site.

Pick-up & delivery 55%App & booking 15%Insurance transparency 10%Reviews 10%Price 5%Deposit & fees 5%

This ranking weights insurance transparency at 25%, even higher than deposit size itself — a deposit is only half the picture; if the insurance excess is unclear, a zero-deposit booking can still carry a nasty surprise.

Insurance transparency 25%Pick-up & delivery 20%App & booking 20%Reviews 15%Price 10%Deposit & fees 10%

This ranking adds a seventh criterion, alongside Luxury's: EV fleet size and availability (35% of the weight) — how many electric vehicles are actually bookable in the app right now, not just listed as a possibility — balanced against the standard insurance, pick-up & delivery and app criteria.

Why you can trust these scores

Commission from booking links never affects a score — the published weights, applied to the raw metrics on each provider's review page, are the only thing that determines ranking order. Scores are recalculated from that underlying data whenever a metric or weight changes; nothing is manually overridden after the fact. Prices and terms are re-checked monthly, and review scores and volumes are pulled from Google and Trustpilot on the same cadence. If you spot something outdated, email corrections@rankedcarrentals.com with the service and detail — we re-verify and correct it in our next monthly cycle.

FAQ

How do you collect pricing and deposit data?

Directly from each service's published rate card and live booking flow, re-checked monthly — not a single point-in-time snapshot that goes stale.

Do rental companies pay to be ranked higher?

No individual booking or click generates a higher score. A commission on a booking link never touches the weights or the underlying metrics — see "Why you can trust these scores" for exactly what does determine ranking order.

Who tests the app and booking experience?

Our research team completes a full booking flow in each service's app or site itself. The app & booking score reflects that hands-on test, not the service's own marketing claims.

How often is this data re-verified?

Monthly — every category page and the methodology page state the same update cadence.

What if you have outdated or incorrect information?
